Bitcoin’s (BTC) claim to decentralization is under scrutiny after two mining pools, Foundry USA and AntPool, accumulated a combined 51.6% of the network’s hashrate.&nbsp;The development has raised concerns about the possibility of a “51% attack,” in which a small group of operators could theoretically rewrite transactions, censor activity, or attempt a chain takeover.&nbsp;<a href="http://stocktwits.com/symbol/BTC.X">Bitcoin’s price</a> continued to trade at around $113,300 in early morning trade on Thursday, down 0.4% over the last 24 hours. Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other major cryptocurrencies dropped over the weekend after last week’s macroeconomic data continued to weigh down on retail sentiment. Investors are now looking to the upcoming Jackson Hole meeting and jobless claims data for cues on how the Fed may be thinking about future policy.&nbsp;<a href="http://stocktwits.com/symbol/btc.x">Bitcoin’s price</a> dipped 2.4% in early morning trading and was trading at around $115,200, with retail sentiment on Stocktwits in ‘bearish’ territory. BTC’s price has dipped nearly $10,000 since its latest record high of over $124,000 last week.Bitcoin-linked stocks were mixed during pre-market trading amid broader weakness in the market. Shares of Strategy (<a href="http://stocktwits.com/symbol/MSTR">MSTR</a>), the largest corporate holder of Bitcoin, dipped 1.8%. Bitcoin miner Riot Platforms (<a href="http://stocktwits.com/symbol/RIOT">RIOT</a>) stock dropped 1.5%, while shares of its peer, Mara Holdings (<a href="http://stocktwits.com/symbol/MARA">MARA</a>), slid nearly 2%. Most of the liquidations came from long bets–traders who bet that the price of cryptocurrencies would rise, amounting to around $484 million. Short liquidations were around $68 million. Bitcoin Slips Under $116,000 While Cardano, Solana Lead Altcoin Selloff

The selloff in the crypto market led to more than $550 million in liquidations over the past 24 hours, according to Coinglass data. 

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent reportedly said on Thursday that the U.S. government’s plans for a Bitcoin (BTC) reserve do not include buying up more of the cryptocurrency.“We’ve also started a Bitcoin Strategic Reserve. We’re not going to be buying that, but we are going to use confiscated assets and continue to build that up. We’re going to stop selling them. The bitcoin reserve at today’s price is somewhere between $15-$20 billion,” he said in an&nbsp;<a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.foxbusiness.com/video/6376910492112">interview</a> with Fox Business.<a href="http://stocktwits.com/symbol/BTC.X">Bitcoin’s price</a> hit a fresh all-time high of over $124,000 on Wednesday. The apex cryptocurrency is currently trading at around $118,00 after dropping more than 3.2% in the last 24 hours. On Stocktwits, retail sentiment around BTC was in ‘bullish’ territory, up from ‘bearish’ a day ago. It was also among the top trending tickers on the platform at the time of writing.The dip in Bitcoin’s price came after July’s producer price index (PPI) came in hotter than expected. PPI&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/news-articles/markets/equity/ppi-report-wholesale-inflation-surges-to-3-3-in-july/chsRSI7RdOJ">rose</a> 0.9% in July on a month-on-month basis and 3.3% year-on-year. Core PPI, which excludes food and energy prices, also jumped 0.9% in July with a year-on-year gain of 3.7%. Moreover, labor market data showed conditions remained constrained, with initial jobless claims for the week ending August 9 at 224,000 and continuing claims steady at 1.95 million.During the interview, Bessent also stated that the government has no plans to sell its gold reserve. “We’ve got large gold holdings. Gold spot prices fell 0.3% in morning trade on Thursday, and gold futures slipped 0.63%. Shares of French semiconductor company Sequans Communications S.A.(SQNS) surged over 19%&nbsp;in Monday’s pre-market after the company unveiled a&nbsp;Bitcoin (BTC)-focused treasury strategy, complementing its role in the cellular IoT semiconductor market.&nbsp;Sequans disclosed that it has secured commitments to raise approximately $384 million through a dual-tranche private placement of equity and convertible debt instruments.&nbsp;The firm plans to allocate a substantial amount of capital to Bitcoin, framing it as a long-term strategic asset.The initiative will be supported through a partnership with Swan Bitcoin, a U.S.-based&nbsp;Bitcoin&nbsp;infrastructure and advisory firm.Sequans plans to raise capital through a combination of approximately $195 million from the issuance of ordinary shares and warrants, along with $189 million in secured convertible notes.&nbsp;Leading the private placement effort are Northland Capital Markets and B. Riley Securities, serving as co-lead placement agents, with Yorkville Securities contributing as an additional agent.&nbsp;The offering is slated to close by July 1, pending shareholder approval during meetings scheduled for June 30.&nbsp;Completion of the debt component depends on the closure of the equity portion, which must reach at least $195 million in gross proceeds. (DJT), which&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/news-articles/markets/equity/trump-media-stock-rises-on-plans-to-offer-bitcoin-etf-other-thematic-financial-products/chPDNWbRsI">announced</a> its intention to launch thematic investment products in early February, could be gearing up to launch its first Bitcoin (BTC.X) exchange-traded fund (ETF).A regulatory<a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.nyse.com/publicdocs/nyse/markets/nyse-arca/rule-filings/filings/2025/SR-NYSEArca-2025-40.pdf"> filing</a> by the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) showed that the exchange plans to list and trade Truth Social Bitcoin ETF shares. The filing identified Florida-based Yorkville America Digital as the trust sponsor and Foris DAX Trust Company LLC as the custodian.Foris DAX is an affiliated entity of Crypto.com. In late March, Trump Media &amp; Technology Group (TMTG)&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/news-articles/markets/equity/trump-media-announces-crypto.com-partnership-for-etf-launch/ch7yOYMRbd4">confirmed</a> an agreement with Crypto.com to launch a series of ETFs under the Truth.Fi brand.Trump Media &amp; Technology Group (TMTG) is majority owned by President Donald Trump, but the filing does not mention the president’s name. Nor did it contain the ticker of the proposed ETF or its fees.Last week, TMTG&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/news-articles/markets/equity/trump-media-secures-over-2-billion-for-bitcoin-treasury/ch0uc8zRbuB">said</a> it raised $2.5 billion through a substantial private placement, adding that the proceeds will be used to set up a Bitcoin treasury.&nbsp;According to a Bloomberg report, Trump's planned Bitcoin ETF launch will be seen as a big endorsement of the apex crypto. Citing its ETF analyst, Eric Balchunas, Bloomberg said the filing could be routine in a crowded category that currently boasts more than 60 U.S. offerings.Balchunas said, “It will have its work cut out to attract flows and liquidity.”On Stocktwits, retail sentiment toward TMTG stock was ‘bearish’ (33/100) by late Tuesday,’ although the message volume was high.
