Litecoin is a peer-to-peer cryptocurrency created by Charlie Lee. It was created based on the Bitcoin protocol but differs in terms of the hashing algorithm used. Litecoin uses the memory intensive Scrypt proof of work mining algorithm. Scrypt allows consumer-grade hardware such as GPU to mine those coins.  Why Litecoin? Litecoin is a cryptocurrency that has evolved from Bitcoin after its own popularity in the industry, this alternative, or ‘altcoin’ has emerged to allow investors to diversify their digital currency package, according to Investopedia. Litecoin is one of the most prominent altcoins and was created by former Google employee and Director of Engineering at Coinbase, Charlie Lee. Litecoin was the first to alter Bitcoin and the most significant difference is that it takes 2.5 minutes for Litecoin to generate a block, or transaction, in comparison to Bitcoin's 10 minutes.  ‘While this matters little to traders, miners who use hardware to run Bitcoin's network cannot switch over to Litecoin. This keeps bigger mining conglomerates away from Litecoin because they cannot easily optimize their profits by swapping to another coin, contributing to a more decentralized experience. Litecoin also has bigger blocks, and more coins in circulation, making it more affordable and swift when transacting,’ Investopedia explained.  As explained above, Litecoin can transact a lot faster than Bitcoin, but there are also a number of other characteristics that investors need to know before trading. Litecoin can handle higher volumes of transactions because of the capability of transacting faster and if Bitcoin attempted to transact on the scale of its altcoin, a code update would be needed. However, Litecoin’s blocks would be larger, but with more ‘orphaned blocks'. The faster block time of litecoin reduces the risk of double spending attacks - this is theoretical in the case of both networks having the same hashing power.  Litecoin Technical Details: The transaction confirmation time taken for Litecoin is about 2.5 minutes on average (as compared to Bitcoin's 10 minutes). The Litecoin network is scheduled to cap at 84 million currency units.   Litecoin has inspired many other popular alternative currencies (eg. Dogecoin) because of its Scrypt hashing algorithm in order to prevent ASIC miners from mining those coins. However it is said that by the end of this year, Scrypt ASIC will enter the mass market.

Bitcoin (BTC) dipped below $100,000 for the second time this week as macroeconomic pressure continued to weigh on the cryptocurrency amid the ongoing government shutdown.Early Friday trade saw&nbsp;<a href="http://stocktwits.com/coins/bitcoin">BTC’s price</a> fall more than 3% to $99,800, according to CoinGecko data, after first dipping to $99,607 on Tuesday. The last time Bitcoin hit these levels was in late June, earlier this year.&nbsp;On Stocktwits, retail sentiment around the apex cryptocurrency dipped to ‘neutral’ from ‘bullish’ over the past day, as chatter remained at ‘high’ levels. <ul class="summary-bullets"><li>In the last 17 years, Bitcoin has gone from Satoshi’s Genesis Block to a $126,000 digital asset.</li><li>Bitcoin’s journey reflects a philosophical tension between decentralization and institutional adoption, with market capitalization surpassing $2.2 trillion.</li><li>Once designed to bypass intermediaries, Bitcoin now serves as a treasury asset, ETF investment, and hedge in the debasement trade.</li></ul>Seventeen years after the publication of Bitcoin’s (BTC) white paper, the cryptocurrency has grown far beyond its original ethos.&nbsp;Satoshi Nakamoto pitched “a purely peer-to-peer version of electronic cash” that would eliminate intermediaries and bypass traditional financial gatekeepers. The timestamped headline on the Genesis Block, mined on January 3, 2009, read, "Chancellor on brink of second bailout for banks." It was a direct critique of a system that had erased wealth while protecting institutional actors during 2008 financial crisis.Today, that radical vision has been partially co-opted by the very institutions Bitcoin was designed to circumvent.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Centralization Forces Enter the Fray</h2>Strategy’s pivot in 2020 set the stage for this shift. Today, over 100 publicly listed companies across 29 countries hold more than 1.6 million Bitcoin, valued at $183 billion, according to&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.coingecko.com/en/treasuries/bitcoin">data</a> from CoinGecko. Bitwise data&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://x.com/BitwiseInvest/status/1978221667605176785/photo/1">shows</a> there are almost 40% more public companies holding Bitcoin today than there were three months ago.Regulatory frameworks, including the GENIUS, CLARITY, and Anti-CBDC Acts, have further normalized institutional participation.&nbsp;Exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and digital asset treasuries (DATs) provide regulated channels for traditional investors, introducing centralized control and benchmarks to a system originally designed to bypass them.&nbsp;<h2 class="st-heading-2">Decentralization Resists And Evolves</h2>Despite centralization pressures, decentralized exchanges (DEXs) continue to grow. According&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://defillama.com/">to</a> DefiLlama, DEXs recorded a historic monthly trading volume of over $585 billion in October 2025, surpassing the previous peak set in January 2025 during the emergence of meme tokens TRUMP and MELANIA.&nbsp;Meanwhile, macro uncertainty has elevated Bitcoin’s role in the “<a href="https://stocktwits.com/news-articles/markets/equity/bitcoin-was-the-only-answer-to-the-debt-crisis-strive-ceo/cLGFCkMR3xl">debasement trade</a>,” with investors using it as a hedge against dollar weakness. The surge above $126,000 in early October shows Bitcoin’s dual identity, explained in NYDIG's latest&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.nydig.com/research/the-factors-driving-gold-and-bitcoin">research</a> report. It showed that Bitcoin tends to rise when the U.S. dollar weakens and liquidity improves.&nbsp;<h2 class="st-heading-2">Market Growth Reflects Philosophical Shift</h2>More than a decade since the paper was published, Bitcoin’s market capitalization has surged past $2.2 trillion, with the asset reaching all-time highs above $126,000 per coin, earlier this month – driven, in part, by institutional adoption of the apex cryptocurrency. Bitcoin Turns 17: Price, Debasement Trade, And The Centralization-Decentralization Divide

Bitcoin’s 17-year journey has been a tug-of-war between its decentralized, anti-establishment origins and growing institutional adoption.

Retail sentiment on the platform around MSTR jumped to ‘extremely bullish’ from ‘neutral’ territory over the past day, as chatter surged to ‘extremely high’ from ‘normal’ levels.&nbsp;President and CEO Phong Le said the firm is “actively laying the groundwork for credit securities in international jurisdictions,” aiming to position Strategy as a dominant global credit issuer. The firm highlighted Strategy’s efforts to broaden its addressable market through the launch of new credit products outside the U.S., a move seen as key to scaling the company’s business model.&nbsp;Cantor Fitzgerald also trimmed its target to $560 from $697, keeping an ‘Overweight’ rating, citing slower October Bitcoin purchases. The company added only 778 BTC during the month, the smallest increase in more than a year, which Cantor said limits the accretive potential of its capital markets strategy.The company reported revenue of $129 million, above the estimated $117 million by Wall Street, according to Koyfin data. Its adjusted earnings per share (EPS) came in at $31.27, at par with the consensus forecast. Core Scientific shareholders would receive 0.1235 newly-issued Class A common stock for every CORZ stock they hold, translating to a total deal value of about $9 billion compared to Core Scientific’s current market capitalization of $5.471 billion.Buoyed by artificial intelligence (AI)-related demand for infrastructure and the CoreWeave deal, the stock has been on a broader uptrend since the post-tariff lows seen in early April. The stock had hit an all-time high of $20.36 (intraday) on Oct. 16 but has since retreated from the peak.<h2 class="st-heading-2">What’s Ailing CORZ Stock&nbsp;</h2>The recent weakness in Core Scientific stock may be partly attributed to the crypto market's weakness amid an uncertain geopolitical backdrop. <a href="https://stocktwits.com/coins/bitcoin">Bitcoin</a> has lost about 14% from its Oct. 6 peak of $126,198.07, indicating it is in correction territory.Core Scientific derives a bulk of its total revenue from digital asset self-mining and hosted mining. The second-quarter results released in early August showed that roughly 87% of the total revenue of $78.6 million was derived from these two segments. Expect a wave of bankruptcies, defaults, and layoffs as the sector is decimated by the imminent Bitcoin and Ether crash, which will obliterate the rest of the altcoin market,” Schiff wrote in an earlier&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://x.com/PeterSchiff/status/1979141335232790587">post</a>.
