Lear Corporation announced that its Board approved increasing its share repurchase authorization to $1.5 billion and extending the program through December 31, 2029. At the end of Q2 2026, Lear had about $600 million remaining under its previous authorization, which was set to expire on December 31, 2026.
The new authorization represents roughly 26% of Lear’s current market capitalization. Repurchases may be conducted through open-market purchases, accelerated share repurchase programs, privately negotiated transactions and other structured buyback arrangements.
Since launching its repurchase program in 2011, Lear has bought back 63.6 million shares for $6.1 billion through Q2 2026, reducing its shares outstanding by approximately 60%. The automotive technology company said the expanded authorization reflects confidence in its business outlook and free cash flow generation.
