Under this contract, “most crypto assets are not themselves securities.”&nbsp;<h2 class="st-heading-2">From Ripple Lawsuit To Revised Interpretation</h2>In December 2020, the&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.sec.gov/newsroom/press-releases/2020-338">SEC sued Ripple Labs</a> and its executives, alleging the company had raised over $1.3 billion through an unregistered securities offering tied to XRP, Ripple’s crypto token. The filing stated that the trust may stake a large share of its Ethereum while keeping some assets available in case investors choose to sell their shares.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Crypto Investment Products Expand Beyond Bitcoin And Ethereum</h2>Amid this broader shift toward active crypto participation, crypto investment products have also grown sharply over the past five years.
