Boston Dynamics has appointed Rohit Prasad, a former Amazon executive who helped develop and expand Alexa, as its new CEO as the robotics company enters a new phase focused on AI, innovation and commercialization.
Prasad spent 12 years at Amazon working on Alexa and previously 14 years at Raytheon BBN Technologies, leading machine-learning research and applications. His AI expertise could help Boston Dynamics accelerate the development of “physical AI” for industrial and real-world applications.
The company, controlled by Hyundai Motor, is developing the humanoid Atlas, which Hyundai plans to deploy at its Georgia plant starting in 2028 and eventually produce at a rate of up to 30,000 units annually.
Prasad replaces Robert Playter, who stepped down earlier this year after six years as CEO. Several senior executives have also departed, including CTO Aaron Saunders.
