Litecoin is a peer-to-peer cryptocurrency created by Charlie Lee. It was created based on the Bitcoin protocol but differs in terms of the hashing algorithm used. Litecoin uses the memory intensive Scrypt proof of work mining algorithm. Scrypt allows consumer-grade hardware such as GPU to mine those coins.  Why Litecoin? Litecoin is a cryptocurrency that has evolved from Bitcoin after its own popularity in the industry, this alternative, or ‘altcoin’ has emerged to allow investors to diversify their digital currency package, according to Investopedia. Litecoin is one of the most prominent altcoins and was created by former Google employee and Director of Engineering at Coinbase, Charlie Lee. Litecoin was the first to alter Bitcoin and the most significant difference is that it takes 2.5 minutes for Litecoin to generate a block, or transaction, in comparison to Bitcoin's 10 minutes.  ‘While this matters little to traders, miners who use hardware to run Bitcoin's network cannot switch over to Litecoin. This keeps bigger mining conglomerates away from Litecoin because they cannot easily optimize their profits by swapping to another coin, contributing to a more decentralized experience. Litecoin also has bigger blocks, and more coins in circulation, making it more affordable and swift when transacting,’ Investopedia explained.  As explained above, Litecoin can transact a lot faster than Bitcoin, but there are also a number of other characteristics that investors need to know before trading. Litecoin can handle higher volumes of transactions because of the capability of transacting faster and if Bitcoin attempted to transact on the scale of its altcoin, a code update would be needed. However, Litecoin’s blocks would be larger, but with more ‘orphaned blocks'. The faster block time of litecoin reduces the risk of double spending attacks - this is theoretical in the case of both networks having the same hashing power.  Litecoin Technical Details: The transaction confirmation time taken for Litecoin is about 2.5 minutes on average (as compared to Bitcoin's 10 minutes). The Litecoin network is scheduled to cap at 84 million currency units.   Litecoin has inspired many other popular alternative currencies (eg. Dogecoin) because of its Scrypt hashing algorithm in order to prevent ASIC miners from mining those coins. However it is said that by the end of this year, Scrypt ASIC will enter the mass market.

It announced the investment plans during Amazon Netherlands’ anniversary congress in The Hague, celebrating five years of serving customers in the region.<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/AMZN">Amazon's stock</a>&nbsp;(AMZN) rose&nbsp;nearly 2% in pre-market trade on Monday at the time of writing.&nbsp;<h2 class="st-heading-2">Amazon Ramps Up European Expansion&nbsp;</h2>Amazon’s head for Belgium and the Netherlands,&nbsp;Eva Faict, said the investment is aimed at helping expand its cloud and logistics operations in the region. This, in addition to continuing low prices, a wider product selection, and faster delivery options for customers.&nbsp;Faict said part of the investment would be used to develop artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities for entrepreneurs who sell products on Amazon’s platform.&nbsp;“This investment will substantially benefit Dutch SME entrepreneurs selling through Amazon.nl. More than 60% of all products sold on Amazon.nl come from our selling partners, and we're seeing more and more Dutch entrepreneurs successfully growing their business and reaching customers in the Netherlands and around the world. Global businesses would take a hit of $1.2 trillion in 2025 from President Donald Trump's trade tariffs, according to new research by S&amp;P Global.The analysis, drawing on data from 15,000 sell-side analysts covering 9,000 companies contributing to S&amp;P's research and indexes, offers one of the first definitive assessments of the U.S. trade policy's impact — a policy that has unsettled global businesses and markets since April.S&amp;P Global stated that companies will bear one-third of the cost, while the remainder will fall on consumers, according to a CNBC&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.cnbc.com/2025/10/16/tariff-costs-to-companies-this-year-to-hit-1point2-trillion-with-consumers-taking-most-of-the-hit-sp-says.html">report</a> that covers the key points of the S&amp;P analysis. Companies covered by S&amp;P are facing $907 billion in additional costs, with the remaining amount allocated to uncovered companies and private equity and venture capital investors."The sources of this trillion-dollar squeeze are broad. Tariffs and trade barriers act as taxes on supply chains and divert cash to governments; logistics delays and freight costs compound the effect," author Daniel Sandberg said in the report."Collectively, these forces represent a systemic transfer of wealth from corporate profits to workers, suppliers, governments, and infrastructure investors."In the last six months, companies such as retail chain Walmart, toy maker Mattel, sportswear brand Adidas, consumer goods company Procter &amp; Gamble, and car makers such as Ford and Toyota have increased the prices of their products.Businesses are dealing with the complicated decision-- whether to hike prices, which could deter demand, or absorb the higher prices from tariffs, which would depress profits. Beauty, and Dr Pepper were the most popular consumer goods brands in their respective categories among American teenagers, according to a new survey published on Thursday.Piper Sandler's "Taking Stock with Teens" report, drawing on a survey of nearly 11,000 teens across 47 states about their clothing, food, and digital service preferences, found that loyalty to well-known brands remained strong.Nike continued to dominate as the top clothing brand, with Abercrombie &amp; Fitch-owned Hollister at number two and Brandy Melville, an Italian womenswear brand, a distant third among upper-income teens.Nike was also the top footwear brand, followed by Adidas and New Balance. The standing signals Nike's strong brand appeal amid an ongoing turnaround effort at the company. On Running overtook HOKA, produced by Deckers Outdoor, for the first time in the past six survey reads.The survey demystifies the latest trends among teenagers, including the Gen Z cohort, which is becoming an increasingly important consumer segment for companies. Notably, the data showed that teens' self-reported annual spending dropped 6% year-on-year, consistent with the broader trend.In the beauty and personal care segment, e.l.f. Beauty was the most preferred brand, and Sephora was the most preferred store for beauty products. E.l.f. Beauty is facing particular disruption due to its heavy reliance on production and sales in China, and has withheld its annual forecast.In the food space, Dr. Pepper was teens' top choice of sodas, followed by Coca-Cola, while the chicken sandwich chain Chick-fil-A trumped low-cost restaurants like McDonald's and Chipotle Mexican Grill.TikTok and Netflix were the platforms of choice in the social media and streaming categories.
