<ul class="summary-bullets"><li>Taiwan will provide credit guarantees of at least $250 billion for additional investment by its companies in the U.S.&nbsp;</li><li>Taiwanese companies that build new chip capacity in the U.S. will be permitted to import up to 2.5 times planned capacity without additional tariffs during the construction period.</li><li>Companies from the island that complete new chip production projects in the U.S. will be allowed to import 1.5 times their new U.S. production capacity without paying additional tariffs.</li></ul>The United States and Taiwan have reached a trade agreement that will reduce tariffs on goods imported from the island and boost investment in the U.S. semiconductor industry.According to a <a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.commerce.gov/news/fact-sheets/2026/01/fact-sheet-restoring-american-semiconductor-manufacturing-leadership">statement</a> from the U.S. Department of Commerce, the tariff rate on Taiwanese goods will now be 15%, down from 20% before.Taiwanese semiconductor companies will also make direct investments of at least $250 billion to build and expand the semiconductor industry in the U.S., as per the statement.Taiwan will also provide credit guarantees totalling at least $250 billion for additional investment by Taiwanese companies in the U.S.As per the department, the “historic trade deal will drive a massive reshoring of America’s semiconductor sector” and “strengthen U.S. economic resilience, create high-paying jobs, and bolster national security.”<h2 class="st-heading-2">Additional Perks</h2>In addition, levies on Taiwanese auto parts, timber, lumber, and wood derivative products have also been capped at 15%, while reciprocal tariffs for generic pharmaceuticals, aircraft components, and unavailable natural resources have been removed, as per the fact sheet.The U.S. has also committed to rewarding Taiwanese semiconductor companies that invest in the country. Companies that build new chip capacity in the U.S. will be permitted to import up to 2.5 times planned capacity without additional tariffs during the construction period, with a lower tariff rate applicable for above-quota imports.Taiwanese companies that complete new chip production projects in the U.S. will be allowed to import 1.5 times their new U.S. production capacity without paying additional tariffs.The deal comes as a Supreme Court decision on the legality of President Trump’s global tariffs is expected.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Impact On TSMC</h2>While the fact sheet did not explicitly name Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (TSM), the trade deal is likely to have an impact on Taiwan’s largest chip manufacturer.As per an earlier report from The New York Times on the deal, TSMC is likely to commit to building at least five more semiconductor facilities in the U.S. state of Arizona.Last year, TSMC expanded its U.S. investment to $165 billion, pledging to build three fresh fabrication plants, two new advanced packaging facilities, and a research and development team center.Earlier on Thursday, TSMC <a href="https://stocktwits.com/news-articles/markets/equity/tsmc-posts-blowout-q4-puts-spotlight-back-on-nvidia/cmU1XuCR47j">reported</a> fourth-quarter (Q4) earnings results, clocking in revenue of NT$1.046 trillion, a growth of 20.5% from a year ago, and a profit surge of 35%. US, Taiwan Reach Deal To Cut Import Tariffs, Boost Chip Investment In America

According to a statement from the U.S. Department of Commerce, the tariff rate on Taiwanese goods will be 15% and Taiwan will invest at least $250 billion in America’s semiconductor industry.

Sellers are also required to have rigorous Know Your Customer (KYC) procedures to screen buyers.<h2 class="st-heading-2">China Vs The U.S.</h2>The U.S. and China are vying for dominance in the global AI industry. Last month, President Donald Trump reversed an earlier decision to ban semiconductor exports to China by legally allowing Nvidia to export its H200 chips to China.However, Nvidia more-advanced Blackwell generation chips are still banned from Chinese exports. US Updates License Review For Advanced Computing, Makes Way For Nvidia, AMD To Sell To China

The Department of Commerce updated the license review policy for exports of some semiconductors to China and Macau, changing it from a presumption of denial to a case-by-case review.

(NVDA) as its top pick in 2026 in the artificial intelligence space.In an interview with CNBC TV on Tuesday, Caso <a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HCGOaDRR44E">said</a> that the analyst sees an opportunity in Nvidia right now as the multiple has pulled back.“In Nvidia's case right now, the multiple is in the low 20s right now on ’26 numbers. We see upside to those numbers,” he said. “The stock hasn’t done much in the last six months, and we do see some pretty strong fundamentals ahead for this year.”Shares of NVDA gained over 13% in the past six months. Meanwhile, shares of MU gained over 185% while shares of GOOG rose over 84% in the same time.Last year, Caso backed Micron, adding it to the ‘Wolfe Alpha List’. Caso said the firm considered it a poor man’s way of playing AI because of its attractive valuation at the time. MU stock is up over 250% in the last one year.<h2 class="st-heading-2">The Nvidia Upside</h2>According to Caso, much of Nvidia’s upside comes from pricing. While the market worries about competitive pressure from other chipmakers and AI players, Caso believes Nvidia will be able to maintain its market position.“And we think the pricing tells the story there about both the sustainable competitive advantage they have as well as their ability to sustain the margins,” he said in the interview.Caso noted Nvidia’s pricing dynamic going into 2027 on the back of its Rubin Ultra product cycle. “The whole premise of Nvidia right now is delivering value to the customers, providing more performance per watt, more performance per dollar, so that you can do more inference with the same amount of money, which folks like OpenAI surely need,” he said.That’s where Nvidia’s competitive advantage against everyone else comes from and it's the basis on which the analyst sees value in the company over the next two years.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Biggest Competition</h2>Caso noted that Nvidia’s biggest competitor in the market now would be Alphabet Inc.’s (GOOG) Gemini Tensor Processing Units (TPU) because its performance is closest to Nvidia’s.“TPU is going on its seventh generation right now. And it’s not just the chip itself, but it’s also all the networking and the systems,” Caso noted. The analyst added that at present, customers would not be impressed with chip performance alone.
