Bitcoin is the first successful internet money based on peer-to-peer technology; whereby no central bank or authority is involved in the transaction and production of the Bitcoin currency. It was created by an anonymous individual/group under the name, Satoshi Nakamoto. The source code is available publicly as an open source project, anybody can look at it and be part of the developmental process.  Bitcoin is changing the way we see money as we speak. The idea was to produce a means of exchange, independent of any central authority, that could be transferred electronically in a secure, verifiable and immutable way. It is a decentralized peer-to-peer internet currency making mobile payment easy, very low transaction fees, protects your identity, and it works anywhere all the time with no central authority and banks.  Bitcoin is designed to have only 21 million BTC ever created, thus making it a deflationary currency. Bitcoin uses the SHA-256 hashing algorithm with an average transaction confirmation time of 10 minutes. Miners today are mining Bitcoin using ASIC chip dedicated to only mining Bitcoin, and the hash rate has shot up to peta hashes.  Being the first successful online cryptography currency, Bitcoin has inspired other alternative currencies such as Litecoin, Peercoin, Primecoin, and so on.  The cryptocurrency then took off with the innovation of the turing-complete smart contract by Ethereum which led to the development of other amazing projects such as EOS, Tron, and even crypto-collectibles such as CryptoKitties.

Bitcoin

Bitcoin is experiencing heightened volatility as it tests critical support levels, sparking intense debate about whether the recent dip signals a buying opportunity or the start of a deeper bear market. Community discussions range from long-term bullish outlooks and disbelief to concerns about market manipulation and the potential for further declines. Traders are closely watching key levels and government actions.

Ethereum is a global, open-source platform for decentralized applications. In other words, the vision is to create a world computer that anyone can build applications in a decentralized manner; while all states and data are distributed and publicly accessible. Ethereum supports smart contracts in which developers can write code in order to program digital value. Examples of decentralized apps (dapps) that are built on Ethereum includes tokens, non-fungible tokens, decentralized finance apps, lending protocol, decentralized exchanges, and much more.  On Ethereum, all transactions and smart contract executions require a small fee to be paid. This fee is called Gas. In technical terms, Gas refers to the unit of measure on the amount of computational effort required to execute an operation or a smart contract. The more complex the execution operation is, the more gas is required to fulfill that operation. Gas fees are paid entirely in Ether (ETH), which is the native coin of the blockchain. The price of gas can fluctuate from time to time depending on the network demand.

Ethereum

Ethereum is experiencing renewed selling pressure, with community members closely watching the 200-day moving average as a key support level. Bearish sentiment seems to be rising with some traders anticipating further declines, while others are using the dip as a buying opportunity, and institutions are being observed for dip buying. Ripple is the catchall name for the cryptocurrency platform, the transactional protocol for which is actually XRP, in the same fashion as Ethereum is the name for the platform that facilitates trades in Ether. Like other cryptocurrencies, Ripple is built atop the idea of a distributed ledger network which requires various parties to participate in validating transactions, rather than any singular centralized authority. That facilitates transactions all over the world, and transfer fees are far cheaper than the likes of bitcoin. Unlike other cryptocurrencies, XRP transfers are effectively immediate, requiring no typical confirmation time.  Ripple was originally founded by a single company, Ripple Labs, and continues to be backed by it, rather than the larger network of developers that continue bitcoin’s development. It also doesn’t have a fluctuating amount of its currency in existence. Where bitcoin has a continually growing pool with an eventual maximum, and Ethereum theoretically has no limit, Ripple was created with all of its 100 billion XRP tokens right out of the gate. That number is maintained with no mining and most of the tokens are owned and held by Ripple Labs itself — around 60 billion at the latest count.  Even at the recently reduced value of around half a dollar per XRP, that means Ripple Labs is currently sitting on around $20 billion worth of the cryptocurrency (note: Ripple’s price crashed hard recently, and may be worth far less than $60 billion by time you read this). It holds 55 billion XRP in an escrow account, which allows it to sell up to a billion per month if it so chooses in order to fund new projects and acquisitions. Selling such an amount would likely have a drastic effect on the cryptocurrency’s value, and isn’t something Ripple Labs plans to do anytime soon.  In actuality, Ripple Labs is looking to leverage the technology behind XRP to allow for faster banking transactions around the world. While Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are built on the idea of separating financial transactions from the financial organizations of traditional currencies, Ripple is almost the opposite in every sense. The firm highlighted Strategy’s efforts to broaden its addressable market through the launch of new credit products outside the U.S., a move seen as key to scaling the company’s business model.&nbsp;Cantor Fitzgerald also trimmed its target to $560 from $697, keeping an ‘Overweight’ rating, citing slower October Bitcoin purchases. When it does occur, it often reflects indecision and extended consolidation.”Thielen added that Bitcoin is approaching “the apex of a narrow bull market structure,” with a confirmed breakout implying a $50,000 measured-move target. “Repeated failure near $117,000 and breakdowns below $110,000 raise the risk of a deeper pullback,” he said, estimating a potential low around $80,000.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Bitcoin’s ‘Uptober’ Turns ‘Downtober’</h2>Bitcoin’s price has recorded gains in 11 out of 16 available years. The strongest October performance was in 2015, with a 93.7% gain, while the worst performance was in October 2014, with a 12.2% decline following the fallout from the Mt. CoinGlass&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.coinglass.com/LiquidationData">data</a> showed that total crypto liquidations exceeded $860 million in 24 hours — $745 million from long positions and $122 million from shorts. Bitcoin accounted for $303 million of the total, while Ethereum (ETH) saw about $191 million liquidated. Official Trump (TRUMP), Ripple’s native token XRP (XRP), and Solana (SOL) were also among the leading names seeing leveraged bets wiped out.<h2 class="st-heading-2">MSTR Stock Surges After Q3 Results</h2>On the equities side, shares of Strategy (<a href="http://stocktwits.com/symbol/MSTR">MSTR</a>), the largest corporate holder of Bitcoin, edged up more than 6% in pre-market trade after the reporting its third-quater (Q3) results. The stock was among the top trending tickers on Stocktwits. On the platform, retail sentiment around the MSTR jumped to ‘extremely bullish’ from ‘neutral’ over the past day, as chatter surged to ‘extremely high’ from ‘normal’ levels.The company reported revenue of $129 million, above the estimated $117 million by Wall Street, according to Koyfin data. Its adjusted earnings per share (EPS) came in at $31.27, at par with the consensus forecast.Meanwhile, shares of Ethereum-backed digital asset treasury (DAT) firm Bitmine Immersion Technologies (<a href="http://stocktwits.com/symbol/BMNR">BMNR</a>) were up 6%. Strategy records the changes in the fair value of the Bitcoin it holds to measure its net income, making it highly prone to volatility.Strategy’s gains came amid a rise in Bitcoin prices to about $114,000 by the end of September, up from approximately $107,000 at the beginning of July. The company’s Bitcoin holdings rose to 640,808 in October, up from 597,325 at the start of the third quarter.In its software segment, total revenue rose nearly 11% to $128.7 million year over year, driven by a jump in subscription revenue. In 2020, the company pioneered the strategy of holding Bitcoins in its balance sheet and now issues credit instruments with ‘ROC’ (return of capital) dividends based on its holdings.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Strategy Reaffirms Annual Targets</h2>The Tysons Corner, Virginia-based firm reiterated its expectations to achieve $80 per share in earnings in 2025 and $34 billion in operating income. It also expects to net a so-called Bitcoin yield of 30% this year, compared with 26% year-to-date. Bitcoin yield is a key performance indicator that represents the percentage change in the ratio of the company's bitcoin holdings to its outstanding shares from period to period.Earlier this week, Strategy, formerly known as MicroStrategy, became the first-ever Bitcoin treasury company to be assigned a credit rating, after it notched a B- rating from S&amp;P.<blockquote>“Over time, our hope is [that] if Bitcoin was to be treated as a true capital on our balance sheet, that we would be considered an investment-grade rated company,” said CEO Phong Le in a call with analysts after noting that the company has already seen U.S. banks and mortgage companies consider using Bitcoin as collateral.</blockquote><h2 class="st-heading-2">What Is Retail Thinking?</h2>Retail sentiment on Stocktwits about Strategy was in the ‘extremely bullish’ territory at the time of writing, compared with ‘neutral’ a day ago, while retail message volume surged to ‘extremely high’ from ‘normal’ a day ago.
