However, U.S. officials chose to renegotiate the terms of the loan as the government remains concerned about the miner’s ability to repay the loan due to low lithium prices.The Thacker Pass project is expected to become the largest source of lithium in the Western Hemisphere upon its commencement in 2028. The most active lithium carbonate futures on the Guangzhou Futures Exchange jumped by 8% and hit the price limit following the shutdown of the mine responsible for 3% of the global lithium output.A rise in global supplies, primarily from China, has caused a 90% decline in lithium prices over the past 24 months, prompting companies to curtail some production and even announce layoffs.
