The Commerce Department’s retail sales data, due before the market opens, and its implications for the economy may play in the minds of traders as they navigate an overbought market.The Fed meeting gets underway on Tuesday, although the outcome of the meeting won’t be known until Wednesday. Senate confirmation of Trump’s nominee Stephen Miran removes one of the overhangs around the rate decision. WisdomTree Senior Economist Jeremy Siegel anticipates a 25-basis-point cut, aligning with market expectations. The economist sees “real potential” for dissent on both sides.As of 3:45 a.m. ET on Tuesday, the Nasdaq 100 futures rose 0.26% and the S&amp;P 500 futures climbed 0.10%, while the Dow futures and Russell 2000 futures were nearly unchanged.Stocks rallied sharply on Monday, thanks to hopes of the U.S. clinching a trade deal with China and some stock-specific strength in companies such as Tesla (TSLA) and Oracle (ORCL). A regional manufacturing survey that showed an unexpected contraction added to evidence of economic softness, increasing hopes for a rate cut.The S&amp;P 500 Index closed at a fresh high, topping the 6,000 mark for the first time, while the Nasdaq Composite and the Nasdaq 100 also scaled new peaks. Stocks are on track for a lackluster session as traders, uneasy over the market’s record performance and cautious ahead of Wednesday’s rate decision, could prefer moving to the sidelines.Friday marks the first of the three upcoming sessions that could show a lack of direction.&nbsp;&nbsp;As of 4:05 a.m. ET on Friday, the Dow and S&amp;P 500 futures fell 0.15% and 0.11%, respectively, while the Nasdaq 100 futures were down 0.03%. The Russell 2000 futures pulled back a steeper 0.35%.After data showed that jobless claims climbed to the highest since 2021 and August consumer prices largely aligned with expectations, except for the monthly rate, stocks rallied sharply on Thursday. Deutsche Bank and Barclays became the latest firms to&nbsp;<a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.reuters.com/business/barclays-deutsche-bank-raise-sp-500-forecasts-bull-run-continues-2025-09-10/">revisit</a> their year-end S&amp;P 500 price targets. While the former lifted its forecast to 7,000 from 6,550, the latter raised it to 6,450 from 6,050. Incidentally.The premises behind the moves are strong corporate earnings, artificial intelligence (AI) optimism and the economy’s resilience.As of 3:05 a.m. ET on Wednesday, the Nasdaq 100, S&amp;P 500 futures, Dow and Russell 2000 futures were all modestly higher.On Wednesday, a strong surge in Oracle (ORCL) shares and its ripple effect on other AI stocks, and a tame producer price inflation report inspired positive closes by the S&amp;P 500 Index and the Nasdaq Composite Index. On a year-over-year basis, the index may have increased at an accelerated pace of 2.9% compared to July’s 2.7% rate. The monthly and annual rates of the core CPI, which excludes food and energy, are expected to remain unchanged at 0.3% and 3.1%.Among the earnings scheduled for the day are Kroger (KR), Lovesac (LOVE), Adobe, Inc. (ADBE) and RH (RH).Not all are convinced about the health of the rally. Former JPMorgan Chief Strategist Marko Kolanoic warned of an AI bubble. Travere Therapeutics (TVTX) on Wednesday said that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration informed the company that it has waived the need for an advisory committee meeting regarding its application for Filspari in treating focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS).The FDA is expected to decide on the company’s application by January 13, 2026. If approved, Filspari would be the first medication indicated for FSGS, the company <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20250910301976/en/Travere-Therapeutics-Provides-Update-on-FDA-Advisory-Committee-Meeting-for-FILSPARI-sparsentan-in-FSGS">said</a>. FSGS is a rare and serious kidney disorder driven by proteinuria or protein leaks into the urine due to a breakdown of the normal filtration mechanism in the kidney. The disease leads to progressive kidney function loss and kidney failure and is estimated to affect more than 40,000 patients in the U.S., according to Travere. &nbsp;Shares of the company soared 16% in the pre-market session.
