In June, Polymarket was valued at $1 billion as it scooped $200 million in funding led by Peter Thiel’s Founders Fund.Polymarket and its rival Kalshi are the leaders in the emerging space of prediction markets, where consumers trade contracts for, or simply bet on, the outcomes of real-world events such as sports tournaments, elections, or economic news.The convergence of sports betting and financial markets appears to be drawing consumers. Trading volume on both Polymarket and Kalshi hit a&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-10-21/prediction-markets-boom-anew-as-volumes-surpass-2024-election">new record</a> last week, surpassing the previous peak reached during the U.S. presidential election last year. This has resulted in shares of these leading betting companies witnessing significant declines.In September, Edwin Dorsey noted that the duopoly maintained by DraftKings and Flutter Entertainment is now being “disrupted by prediction markets like Kalshi, which often offer customers better odds with deeper order books.”In early October, Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), the parent company of the New York Stock Exchange, said it would invest about $2 billion in crypto-based prediction market company Polymarket. Retail sentiment on the stock improved to ‘bullish’ from ‘bearish’ territory compared to a day ago, with message volumes at ‘high’ levels, according to data from Stocktwits.DraftKings highlighted that the acquisition supports its broader strategy to enter prediction markets, expanding its addressable opportunity through regulated event contracts.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Analyst Take On The Deal</h2>Jefferies maintained its ‘Buy’ rating on DraftKings and kept a $51 price target on the stock, according to TheFly. Kalshi, a leading player in prediction markets, recently raised $300 million at a $5 billion valuation, while Robinhood’s stock has surged on the back of its event-contracts launch in partnership with Kalshi.That initially put iGaming players, such as DraftKings and FanDuel operator&nbsp;<a href="https://stocktwits.com/symbol/FLUT">Flutter Entertainment</a>, at a perceived risk. Investors dumped their stocks over concerns that the rise of prediction markets would cannibalize the user base for sports betting and fantasy sports.
