$EWJ Tokyo was up 1% overnight while the rest of Asia sat out the bond selloff. China, Taiwan and Korea were closed for the holiday; Hong Kong -1%, Australia -0.6%. The split inside the Nikkei is the rate story: MUFG +2.5%, Mizuho +3.1%, SoftBank down more than 4%. Banks bid, long-duration dumped. The 10Y sits at a 19-year high around 5.19%, and in Tokyo the only bid was the sector that collects the interest.
