Distributed Exchange Through the use of its intermediary currency Lumens (XLM), a user can send any currency that they own to anyone else in a different currency.  For instance, if Joe wanted to send USD to Mary using her EUR, an offer is submitted to the distributed exchange selling USD for EUR. This submitted offer forms is known as an order book. The network will use the order book to find the best exchange rate for the transaction in-order to minimize the fee paid by a user.  This multi-currency transaction is possible because of "Anchors". Anchors are trusted entities that hold people’s deposits and can issue credit. In essence, Anchors serves as the bridge between different currencies and the Stellar network.  Lumens (XLM) Lumens are the native asset (digital currency) that exist on the Stellar network that helps to facilitate multi-currency transactions and prevent spams. For multi-currency transactions, XLM is the digital intermediary that allows for such a transaction to occur at a low cost.  In-order to prevent DoS attacks (aka spams) that would inevitably occur on the Stellar network, a small fee of 0.00001 XLM is associated with every transaction that occurs on the network. This fee is small enough so it does not significantly affect the cost of transaction, but large enough so it dissuades bad actors from spamming the network.   Prior to Protocol 12, Stellar had a built-in inflation mechanism conceived to allow account holders to collectively direct inflation-generated lumens toward projects built on Stellar.  As the network evolved and grew, it became increasingly clear that inflation wasn’t working as intended — account holders either didn’t set their inflation destination or joined inflation pools to claim the inflation themselves, and the operational costs associated with inflation payments continued to rise — and so a protocol change to disable inflation was proposed, implemented, voted on by validators, and ultimately adopted as part of a network upgrade. The main objective of Bitcoin Cash is to to bring back the essential qualities of money inherent in the original Bitcoin software. Over the years, these qualities were filtered out of Bitcoin Core and progress was stifled by various people, organizations, and companies involved in Bitcoin protocol development. The result is that Bitcoin Core is currently unusable as money due to increasingly high fees per transactions and transfer times taking hours to complete. This is all because of the 1MB limitation of Bitcoin Core’s block size, causing it unable to accommodate to large number of transactions. According to Andrew Moss, Jefferies’ senior vice president and head of digital assets research, this sharp decline appears to be a market correction, not the start of a new crypto winter.&nbsp;Speaking on Yahoo Finance on Tuesday, Andrew Moss&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tC_zAiK7mic">stated</a> that the pullback in the crypto market is a correction, not a structural downturn. “I’d argue that we’re not in a crypto winter,” he added. According to him, a true winter period would be when prices fall and “development slows, TradFi initiatives decelerate, and questions emerge about the longevity of this industry.”Moss added that Bitcoin is down about 47% from its all-time high since early October 2025, while Ethereum (ETH) has fallen roughly 55%, acknowledging that there are sharp price drops, but he argued that price drops alone do not equal a crypto winter.&nbsp;<h2 class="st-heading-2">Crypto Volatile, Retail Sentiment Wavers</h2><a href="https://stocktwits.com/coins/bitcoin">Bitcoin (BTC)</a> traded at $66,666.29, down by 3.32% in the past 24 hours. On Stocktwits, the retail sentiment around Ethereum remained in the ‘bullish’ territory, with chatter at ‘high’ levels over the past day.<h2 class="st-heading-2">Bitcoin Tracks NASDAQ As ETF Outflows Rise</h2>Moss said crypto is moving with broader markets. Bitcoin and tokens more broadly, he said, “don’t trade like gold.” They’re far more correlated with risk assets, far more correlated with the NASDAQ.”&nbsp;Adding to that sentiment, Bloomberg reported in early January that Bitcoin’s correlation with the Nasdaq 100 climbed to a two-year high ahead of U.S. inflation data, underscoring how closely digital assets move with tech stocks.On-chain&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.coinglass.com/etf">data showed</a> smaller retail holders have begun buying again, but larger “whales” remain inactive. At Thursday’s sub-$2,000 ETH prices, that stash was worth about $8.4 billion, leaving BitMine with billions in unrealized losses.&nbsp;Despite the sharp decline, BitMine will not be liquidating its assets. Lee&nbsp;<a class="st-link-external" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fh8djni6jHU">told</a> CNBC on Friday that “we have no leverage, no debt,” and said Ethereum was down about 40% over the last 10 days. Referencing Wall Street tokenization activity, Lee cited firms including UBS, Standard Chartered, and Fidelity, saying institutions are “tokenizing products on Ethereum,” and said utility measures were rising even as prices fell.Lee also outlined BitMine’s balance sheet, saying the company holds about 4.3 million ETH that earned roughly 3% annually.
