U.S. stocks enter Friday’s session with Treasury yields climbing sharply, with the 10-year yield reaching 5.225% Thursday, its highest level since June 2007. Higher yields have weighed on dividend-focused ETFs: the First Trust SMID Cap Rising Dividend Achievers ETF fell 9% from its 52-week high and 6.5% over the past month, while the SPDR S&P Dividend ETF was 7.7% below its July high and down 7% in a month.
Among high-yielding S&P 500 companies with market caps above $10 billion, VICI Properties has a 7.78% dividend yield, followed by UPS at 7.13%, General Mills at 7.01%, Kraft Heinz at 6.71% and Edison International at 6.68%. Their shares have also declined during September, with Edison down nearly 30% over the past month.
Consumer stocks Clorox and Hormel Foods hit their lowest levels since 2013, with Clorox 36% below its February high and Hormel 25% below its June high. Meanwhile, Meta Platforms reached levels not seen since September 2025
