$REFR Here's my take on what is transpiring in the trading and why. On Friday, the short interest reported to FINRA was 31.44 million (31,444,709). This amount is staggering considering it is nearly equivalent to the company's entire available supply of tradable shares.
Research Frontiers Incorporated has approximately 34.87 million (34,867,786) shares outstanding.
The short position exceeds the official public float, short sellers are in a tight corner where they can't cover without triggering a massive price spike. These large short positions must actively defend specific overhead resistance levels. When positive catalysts hit the wire—such as Friday's news regarding Gauzy's court-approved restructuring—and buying pressure builds on Monday, they are forced to counter demand by aggressively "shorting into the strength." This defensive selling creates a mechanical ceiling on the stock, absorbing buy orders to lock the price into a narrow trading range & prevent a runaway short squeeze.
