Transactions are grouped into blocks added approximately every 10 minutes through mining, where specialized computers compete to solve complex mathematical puzzles.   Bitcoin has achieved mainstream adoption through multiple vectors. The January 2024 SEC approval of 11 spot Bitcoin ETFs opened Bitcoin investment to traditional finance participants, and corporations like Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy) are using Bitcoin as a treasury reserve asset to protect against currency debasement, offering MSTR holders amplified exposure to Bitcoin.   The Bitcoin ecosystem continues to evolve with innovations like Ordinals, which emerged in January 2023 to enable NFT-like functionality directly on Bitcoin, and BRC-20 tokens, an experimental standard for creating fungible tokens using Ordinal inscriptions. BTCFi (Bitcoin Finance) represents emerging financial applications extending beyond Bitcoin's traditional role, with protocols like Babylon allowing Bitcoin holders to stake BTC to secure Proof of Stake chains.

Ripple is the catchall name for the cryptocurrency platform, the transactional protocol for which is actually XRP, in the same fashion as Ethereum is the name for the platform that facilitates trades in Ether. Like other cryptocurrencies, Ripple is built atop the idea of a distributed ledger network which requires various parties to participate in validating transactions, rather than any singular centralized authority. That facilitates transactions all over the world, and transfer fees are far cheaper than the likes of bitcoin. Unlike other cryptocurrencies, XRP transfers are effectively immediate, requiring no typical confirmation time.  Ripple was originally founded by a single company, Ripple Labs, and continues to be backed by it, rather than the larger network of developers that continue bitcoin’s development. It also doesn’t have a fluctuating amount of its currency in existence. Where bitcoin has a continually growing pool with an eventual maximum, and Ethereum theoretically has no limit, Ripple was created with all of its 100 billion XRP tokens right out of the gate. That number is maintained with no mining and most of the tokens are owned and held by Ripple Labs itself — around 60 billion at the latest count.  Even at the recently reduced value of around half a dollar per XRP, that means Ripple Labs is currently sitting on around $20 billion worth of the cryptocurrency (note: Ripple’s price crashed hard recently, and may be worth far less than $60 billion by time you read this). It holds 55 billion XRP in an escrow account, which allows it to sell up to a billion per month if it so chooses in order to fund new projects and acquisitions. Selling such an amount would likely have a drastic effect on the cryptocurrency’s value, and isn’t something Ripple Labs plans to do anytime soon.  In actuality, Ripple Labs is looking to leverage the technology behind XRP to allow for faster banking transactions around the world. While Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are built on the idea of separating financial transactions from the financial organizations of traditional currencies, Ripple is almost the opposite in every sense. Cardano uses a proof-of-stake system to process transactions, which works differently from Bitcoin's mining approach. Instead of competing to solve complex puzzles, users can "stake" their ADA — essentially locking it up temporarily — to become validators who verify transactions. The system selects validators based on how much ADA they've staked and for how long, then rewards them with additional ADA for their participation. This approach uses far less energy than traditional mining while keeping the network secure. The platform also features a two-layer design that separates basic payment transactions from smart contract operations, allowing each function to be optimized independently for better performance.   ADA holders can earn staking rewards by locking up their tokens to help secure the network, vote on proposed changes to the platform, and use ADA for international money transfers with lower fees than traditional services.  Cardano was founded in 2017 by Charles Hoskinson, who previously helped create Ethereum. Hoskinson leads Input Output Global (IOG), the technology company that builds and maintains Cardano's core software. The ecosystem operates through three organizations: IOG handles technical development, the Cardano Foundation promotes adoption and standardization, and Emurgo helps businesses integrate blockchain technology into their operations. This structure distributes responsibilities across multiple groups rather than concentrating control in a single entity.   In February 2025, major asset manager Grayscale Investments filed to create an exchange-traded fund (ETF) for Cardano with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, which would allow traditional investors to buy ADA through their regular brokerage accounts without needing to set up cryptocurrency wallets.Retry

In a significant policy shift, U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright revealed the termination of 24 financial assistance awards valued at more than $3.7 billion to clean energy projects.These grants, managed by the Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations (OCED), were found to fall short in supporting national energy priorities, lacked cost-effectiveness, and offered little assurance of a beneficial return for taxpayers.&nbsp;Close to 70% of the rescinded awards were granted in the period between former President Joe Biden’s election day and&nbsp;President Donald Trump’s inauguration on&nbsp;January 20th—most of the impacted initiatives centered on carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) and broader decarbonization strategies.&nbsp;The Department of Energy (DOE) estimates that halting these programs will save taxpayers approximately $3.6 billion right away. According to a Bloomberg&nbsp;<a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-05-30/trump-canceling-3-7-billion-in-clean-energy-projects">report</a>, the list of terminated awards includes $331 million previously allocated to Exxon Mobil Corp.(XOM) for a hydrogen initiative at its Baytown, Texas refinery; $170 million intended for Kraft Heinz Co. (KHC) to support multiple clean energy developments; and $500 million designated for Heidelberg Materials AG to fund a low-carbon cement project.&nbsp;This decision is part of the DOE's broader strategy to back only those projects that fulfill rigorous criteria for economic soundness, national defense, and energy reliability.“While the previous administration failed to conduct a thorough financial review before signing away billions of taxpayer dollars, the Trump administration is doing our due diligence to ensure we are utilizing taxpayer dollars to strengthen our national security, bolster affordable, reliable energy sources and advance projects that generate the highest possible return on investment,” said Secretary Wright.According to the Bloomberg report, additional awards revoked on Friday include $375 million for Eastman Chemical Co. Diamondback Energy Rises Aftermarket On Q4 Profit Beat, Retail’s Elated

The company’s fourth-quarter revenue of $3.71 billion also topped Wall Street’s estimate of $3.55 billion.

Coterra Energy (CTRA) garnered retail attention after the bell on Monday after the company’s fourth-quarter earnings topped Wall Street’s estimates.The oil and gas producer posted adjusted earnings of $0.49 per share for the reported quarter, while analysts, on average, expected the company to post $0.43 per share, according to FinChat data.Its quarterly revenue fell 12.6% to $1.40 billion in the fourth quarter, coming in slightly below estimates.Shares of the company fell 0.5% in aftermarket trade.The company’s average sales price of oil was $68.57 per barrel, down from $77.10 per barrel last year. Coterra Stock In Spotlight After Q4 Profit Beat, Marcellus Basin Production Restart Plan: Retail Chatter Rises

The company has topped market expectations seven out of the last eight quarters.Lower oil prices are expected to hurt the company’s earnings. In January, it posted average unhedged realized prices of $69.48 per barrel for the fourth quarter, compared with $76.42 per barrel last year.According to The Fly, Raymond James analysts expected the company to beat earnings estimates on costs and capital expenditures. Diamondback Energy (FANG) stock garnered retail attention on Thursday after it said long-term CEO Travis Stice would step down and be replaced by Chief Financial Officer Kaes Van't Hof.The oil and gas producer said the leadership changes would be effective from the annual 2025 stockholders' meeting.The company said that Stice would become the executive chair of the board following the transition and remain in that position till the annual stockholders’ meeting in 2026, when the oil industry veteran is expected to become the non-executive chairman.Stice joined Diamondback as its chief operating officer in 2011 before taking charge as chief executive in Jan. 2012. Later that year, he joined the board following the company’s initial public offering.Under Stice’s leadership, Diamondback became one of the largest shale oil producers in the U.S. through several acquisitions and efficiency gains.Last year, it completed a $26 billion deal to buy privately held Endeavor Energy to bolster its presence in the Permian basin.On Tuesday, the company also <a href="https://stocktwits.com/news-articles/markets/equity/diamondback-energy-to-acquire-certain-subsidiaries-of-double-edge-iv-midco/ch5YuQ9Rvi">agreed to buy</a> some subsidiaries of Double Eagle IV Midco in a $4.08 billion deal.Van't Hof joined Diamondback in 2016 as the vice president of strategy and corporate development.
